little big planet comes out tomorrow! in case you didn't know, it's a game for the ps3 that's going to be epic. i think tim would really appreciate this game. anyways, i preordered it but i wont be able to play it for a while :<
its been really hard to manage school wih all my other stuff and some days i literally have no time for homework. but i got a really good score on my calc midterm so im happy about that. im completely screwed for chem because of quantum mechanics and im really stressed about that right now. also today i had a huge fiasco with an online chem exam that completely messed up my quiz average and i was depressed about that but i feel a little better now.
i love getting closer to whitney people here like jenny and shivani and sometimes the three of us have really great private conversations. the kind where its not outright stated, but you know it'll be kept between you and those other people. it's really great knowing people like that. im also getting to know a lot of cool people in apo! im going to be getting my "Big" soon, which is basically a big buddy. it's a huge deal in apo so im really nervous and excited to see who will want me (they have a preference list). i just came back from camp out which was really fun and embarrassing at the same time. i wrestled three girls in the sand at the same time (resulting in bruises/scrapes), slept like a sardine with 12 people in a 6 person tent, and didnt shower for three days. We also had to play this game called "caterpillar" where you get ito teams and sit in the sand. then you link your legs around the waist of the person in front of you and have to propel yourself by your butt/arms and race to the finish line. very hard. and my shorts/underwear got full of sand. plus they made us sing the frat toast song the whole time. some people weren't singing and they yelled at us ahahahaa...im still sore!!! but im making a lot of new friends which is always great.
ive been really into japanese nail art lately, and i do it to myself but i want the really crazy kind. regina's sister can do it, so im going to pay her to get it done maybe! i want the kind where a charm hangs off your nail (see picture at top)
so im going to be an 80s prom girl for halloween! im prolly going out with friends they said they want to party. ill post pictures! what is everyone else going to be? what are your plans?
The Bravery! I like their songs. And this is not the end of the semester yet! I must try harder!
So my Fall Break was great. It was so nice to be back home. As the plane landed all I could think was "I'm home, oh my god, I'm home." Had I wanted to, a tear could have dropped from my eye. It was nice being at home, sleeping in my bed, driving my car, being with my family.
And it was great to see everyone on Saturday (Tim, K-sen, Calvin, Estabs, Daveed)! WAAAH! Love you guys!
I went bowling yesterday, it turned into cosmic bowling midway. I didn't do very well.
SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST. AND THE CAPS. BUT YAY I MET MY FIRST CELEBRITY (i have yet to experience a spontaneous sighting, but i'm in malibu! it will happen eventually!)
jon mclaughlin performed at peppy! it was free, and we got chapel credit for it yesssss i was in the superfront :D i tried to record the last songs/medley he did but my camera ran out of memory :( it was so awesome to hear 'so close' because the last time i did - i was singing it. i miss katherineee but heres the vid anywayyy edit: my friend got a complete one! here, hopefully u have access.
someone from amoeba (a guy.) showed me this awesome song from the Wonder Girls. I am generally not a big fan of korean things, but I really like the Wonder Girls. Their music is so catchy! One day, when I am bored, I will learn the tell me dance. ^0^ (Other Korean things I like: calbee, kimchi, beansprouts, pickled... stuff, the garden church, and David)
I have been trying harder to be spontaneous (read: not hiding in my room). Last week on a thursday night, even though i had homework, i went out with the trio+jake+lynn and had tons of fun! [see fb for pictures, i am so lazy!] we took pics with a lambo we discovered in the parking lot. and we played the cup game. [see fb video] i started my homework at 11:30pm lol. but i think it was worth it. i can be a good student AND go crazy!
oh, i finished heroes season 1. and then i kind of kept going into season 2 even though i was semi-resolving not to. um but i'm not watching it addictively anymore. thankfully.
some highlights since the last time i posted... calvin and derek came to visit pepperdine, and we also went to santa monica (third st promenade, and the pier). [pics on fb lol] it was so exciting! i love going to new places! theyre opening H&M AND American Apparel at third st. I have a feeling I will be going there quite often. It was really windy though. SPEAKING OF WIND. I HATE THE SANTA ANA WINDS. they are so nasty and evil. they make scary noises, cause me to walk slow, blow crap in my eyes/hair, AND they're hot and dry. its been alright this past week, but last week for like 4 days i was miserable and i hated going outside. then i went home and retrieved all my winter clothes! lol. OH and then there were fires in the valley so it was dust and ash and wind and BLEH. i wonder if there will be fires this year. i wonder, if there are, will i leave or stay? it is safe to stay on campus, but do i really want to stay in all the ash and smoke? only thing is, they say that last year they wouldnt let you back on campus for a while. i wonder how much i care. we'll see!
ANOTHER highlight is... amoeba semi-reunion krnbbq! i was the only girl hahaha. there were like... well half of amoeba. richard david estevan tim me and calvin. [pics on fb] it was fun, and expensive, and fun. we went to the garden buffet because they had stuff estevan could eat. dude, for people who dont know how to cook, we did excellently. and i came out smellin like meat. haha ew. but yeah i love amoeba :D
if you didnt know, i'm applying to study abroad next year, in shanghai. i will be learning mandarin (even though EVERYONE knows cantonese is much better. ;D) and 'getting in touch with my roots' or whatever. i am def. looking forward to the food. but of course i will miss home a lot. but i dont really want to think about that quite yet.
the garden church is so awesome! one of the seniors is mentoring me now. the thing that sucked about fecc was that there are few/no female mentorish people. like, they were either too immature or unwilling... or they were married with kids. and there were always other girls who were more needy of that guidance, that were constantly chasing after them. ('them' includes my own mother. honestly, i dont like sharing her. but what can you do, yaknow?) i dont know if you even understood any of that. but ANYWAY the point is, i now have my very own mentor! and she's really smart/talented/mature. <- like me! jk :) we meet every week. the garden church wants me to eventually be a leader. we'll see...
oh i gave up on my resolution not to show andrew my haircut. there were so many picture i wanted to upload! haha. and then he didnt show up to krn bbq. bah. but at least now he has his mac. (btw i think the new macbook is rather unattractive.) last week was midterms and i was mostly crabby. lack of sleep. then i got behind on regular hw. sigh! but this week will be better. being a good student has been very manageable - nothing less than an A so far! calvin and i are going to be salt and pepper for halloween (probably). you know, theres never been a year when i didnt dress up for halloween. (for calvin, pretty much the only years he dresses up is when i hand him something to put on)
what a rambly, disorganized post! sorry about that. take care of yourselves! <3
ps - what do you think of this video? i've been going through all the propositions with calvin, very slowly - they are so complicated! and its so hard to know what the right thing to do is. 1a was especially tricky.
I haven't posted because i completely forgot about it but then tired tim reminded me but then I forgot again so finally I remember and bookmark the page(yay). Anyways, I just wanted to say that I hate chapter 7 of my math book. The other day we were in lecture going through the book in order how we're supposed to and I, having read ahead, understood everything but then out of nowhere the professor was like 'well i dont see why I can't add this in' and freakn' pulls something out of chapter 7. CHAPTER 7! WTF! Are you kidding me?!!! one minute we're learning simple derivatives and the next we're learning about some proof with log natural and e and some crap and i seriously don't know what the hell this guy is thinking or what the hell chapter 7 has anything to do with what we were learning and now im getting owned because I really don't know what is going on. In better news, the gym was rather empty today (I figure people finally gave up on trying to work out) so I got the weights to myself and I didn't have to feel too much of an idiot when lifting 30 lbs. I also met this girl with ADD and has the most interesting (and fastest) conversation with her, she kept guessing what i was saying an interrupting me by saying it before me, it was a very efficient conversation haha. Well I would rant more about UCR but I should really get back to that Chapter 7. O and Mr.MSI Wind hasn't had any shutdown problems, probably because it runs a real OS, Mr.XP. and yes i do write aim style because proper grammar and spelling requires way too much effort.
the amelie soundtrack! oh maaaaaan. so here's the story (morning glory)
two fridays ago, when i was working late in studio (think around 2ish late) i hear someone playing this amazing instrumental music. it sounds so french! it sounds so wonderful! but it seriously sounded like i heard it before. i knew i heard it before, but i had no idea from where. so for a week i kept thinking about it. was it a class performance? i knew i heard it from somewhere!
so yesterday (or two days ago? i forget) i walk in the room and kevin is playing the song! i was like, whaaaaaaat?! and i ask him what the song is. he is taken aback. he doesn't know! he says its from something expressions something marionette something group. i don't think he really knew how to explain it. so, with that little bit of information, i set out to search for the mysteriously wonderful song. i went to youtube first. expressions marionette. a korean dancing group? whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!
i kept searching, but then i was like, ok. maybe. i clicked it, and after much loading time (during which i looked them up on google), they started dancing. and the song played. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! ok, i know i've never seen these guys before. i thought, maybe it was from 06 international day performance. the marionette thing, you know? maybe they took the songs from this korean group or something. maybe...
i read the comments for the video. then. a comment. about these songs. which are from the amelie soundtrack. WWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! and there you go. kristen has the amelie soundtrack. and i am so happy. this is the best music ever!
remember when we watched amelie? no, it was a very long engagement. i watched amelie on my own. next time we all get together, we're watching amelie. at my movie house! hooray!
my favorite song (although i love them all): J'y Suis Jamais Alle
I was just watching the last presidential debate and listening to all the commentary on it... and i feel so uninformed. I know I'm definitely leaning towards Obama, but I don't know about anyone else or any of the other issues that I'll be voting on Nov 4. This presidential campaign just takes up so much of the main stream media that everything else kinda gets pushed to the side. Very sad... so I need to do more research on that.
On a more positive note, I am going to China for study abroad! Very exciting. I'll be taking more Chinese language classes there and hopefully a Chinese culture class. I am so excited. I also got the Freshman Fellow position, meaning i'm the lapdog for the Honors Fellow on our floor. But he's too nice to take advantage of us, so basically it means that I get an "in" with the honors program and am able to meet a lot more people! I'm excited.
Yesterday I had to make homemade jiaozi for 30+ people. It was quite the task... i obviously didn't do it all by myself but i had to make the stuffing and teach people how to wrap and all that jazz. I was so afraid i was going to screw up! I did forget the sugar... but it still tasted fine. People commented on it, so it made me happy. :D That's the only cooking i've done lately. I've brought friends over to my house to cook and have fun though. That was a good time!
I dont have any good stories... grrrrr... Steven's coming back this weekend! Yaaaay!! And it's Homecoming so I'll be very busy. Fun fun fuuuun. We're going to go apple picking (so excited!) and having cocktail dinners and fancy stuff with alumni. Then add in all the homework and papers and random junk i have to do and i am just one major procrastinator. like now. hehe...
Anyway! I hope you all are having a good time. Don't forget to vote! Every vote makes a difference, so get that absentee ballott in the mail!
bad! ...i forgot. oh! now i remember. mr mac wont turn off. its been 5 d
ays now and it just wont shut down! whenever i click shut down, he tells me that logout has timed out or something
like that. whhhhhhy mr mac, whhhhhhhy?
oh, what do you think of the name mr mac? feedback por favor!
my new favorite odwalla is...strawberry c! thanks
to kristen for introducing me to the joys of vitamin c.
oh! for my arch lecture class, we had to do video reports. out of all one hundred something students, my video (link!) was in the top 5 for WHICH CATEGORY??
a) Most Creative
b) Most Informative
c) Best Presentation
d) Most Humorous
e) Best Overall
and i was so glad, bc being in the top 5 means i get 10% extra credit! finally! hard work pays off! hooray!
oh man, i recently painted two paintings. it was
purely for fun; well, no. our building is going to see wicked, but there are limited tickets, so they're doing a lottery thing. the more events you go to leading up to wicked, you get lottery tickets. then, they pick out who will get the wicked tickets! so one event was called project white canvas, where they give us canvases and paint and stuff and we just paint! it was wow fun.
just imagine them backwards. it was so so fun and what a relaxing thing to do!
well, i'll i must go to studio now. i have a project due tomorrow and an essay too, so time to work work work! i'll
leave you with a pHunny pHicture.
its the mona lisa smile! loooooool
again, thanks kristen for these great new things for photobooth! i think this one is hilarious, so videochat with me and you'll see!
the last two weeks have been pretty busy, with midterms and papers and stuff, but i think i did pretty well, so i guess all the work payed off.
it's a three day weekend for me! happiness :) finally, a chance to relax, and i spent it last night going to a rave, which was pretty interesting. it seems very un-me to go to a rave, but it was actually a lot of fun! we took the bus for 20 min there, and lo and behold, the club used to be a church and is appropriately named the "Altar". yes, a church! no, it's not cult-based or creepy. actually, a lot of things in Pittsburgh are built from old buildings and stuff. there's a hookah bar about 2 blocks from my dorm that's built from a church too -_- how almost sacrilegious. yeah it was pretty fun. they had a couple of different techno djs and artists perform, so it was pretty enjoyable, even though it lasted til 2am -__-zzzzzz.
and people really liked to smoke at the rave. never been a big fan of cigarette smoke (bleh), even though i'm used to it, seeing as i hail from hk >.<. i hate how my laundry basket now smells like cigarettes, but at least it's not on me anymore.
it was also weird being like the only asian person there in existence. everybody else was white. seriously now. obviously pittsburgh's more homogeneous than socal is, but this was another story. at the end of the night, when the altar closed, some black person driving by the street opened her window and yelled out "OMG WHITE PEOPLE!!!!" (the club's not in a very white neighborhood). my friend tom pointed out that it was absolutely true...expect for me.
then we called a taxi back to dorms, cause after all, it was like 2:30 by then. pretty funny stuff for a rave. it was a fun experience: got to dance and listen to technoREALLY REALLY LOUDLY. still can't hear entirely...hopefully i didnt kill my ears that badly. but i'm glad i'm not planning to make raves a habit, because i'll be deaf by the time i come back to visit. i'm sorry--what did you say? huh? could you repeat that? oh yeah, i also got my absentee ballot and i voted! don't forget to register if you haven't done so already.
i'm going to fallingwater next weekend with the honors college kids! (yea, timo, that's for you, crazy architecture kid. i'll take pictures.)
Home by Breaking Benjamin, and the song lyrics go with it! Guys! I'm gonna be home soon! YAY!
So my week went by really quickly. Three tests, not quite sure how I did. Spent spent my Friday night carving an awesome pumpkin with one of my roommates. The pumpkin looks like Abe Lincoln, spent the twilight hours watching Big Fish. Great movie.
Spent Saturday sleeping, working a but, and hung out with friends for most of the day. We first watched Dr. Horrible's sing-along blog, which was great. We bought Cranium, the family edition, and played it. Family edition? Bad idea. Introduced Mao to them, and it got crazy. It's hard to pull authority out on rules when you aren't allowed to tell people the rules. And so, we played for a while, then went to Waffle House.
We went to a different one than usual, and ended up waiting for 20 minutes to be served. We went back to our usual one, and decided to never go to the other one ever again.
Okay, do I want to buy a Chinese Chess set? I've found a wooden one for 28 dollars, without shipping, and a plastic one for 17.
is everyone feeling like life is getting super busy?? i have barely any time anymore to sit and relax or blog ahahaha n_n but here I am to give you more information about my very interesting (NOT.) life. so some of my classes are ridiculously hard so ive been doing a lot of work. my calc professor explains stuff in class and its SO SIMPLE like 11th grade precalc but then I try to do the homework and I'm like: WTF??? it's even harder than delgado -___- so that class is really hard. chem is just plain boring. i could learn more by skipping class and reading the book. communications is just reallyyyy long but we're reading this cool book called "You Just Don't Understand" and it's about the way women and men communicate and the differences between them. it's pretty useful because as im reading it i always go: SO THAT'S WHY GUYS DO THAT!!! but sometimes i find myself identifying with the guy's side more o_o yesterday i went to go to my orientation for my job and it looks SO FUN. a lot of students work there and my boss says you get really close to everyone. i actually have to set white tablecloths and the multiple forks/spoons/knives/wine glasses and SERVE people food like into their plate as their sitting at their fancy table. I bet im going to drop food into people's laps ahahahaha... and i get to serve hors devoirs on platters (two and move on, right kristen???) OHHH and I went to initiation on sunday for a phi o and they did a bunch of icebreakers and then we had to do a trust walk where we got in alphabetical order and put our hand on the right shoulder of the person in front of us and our left hand on the hand of the person on our shoulder and had to close our eyes and let the brothers lead us. we had to totally trust them especially when they led us up stairs and told us to "step, step, step." and then we learned about the history of alpha phi omega and the chi chapter, and then we got pinned. I have to wear this pin until the end of January!! if im caught without it on i get half a strike (bad conduct mark you get for making various infractions) and the first day my pin broke o_o so i had to repair it with superglue and glued my fingers together in the process ahahahaaa... yesterday we had our first pledge meeting and chapter meeting and i have to interview 15 active members and write half a page about them by next wednesday! and memorize the first and last names of all the pledge members and their faces (we're getting quizzed on wednesday) above is a picture of my desk! so cluttered, huh? sorry it's crooked i took it with my macbook. and there's also a picture of a pretty canopy that's over my bed and the pictures i have pinned on the wall. i love the color of my bedspread! ughh gotta go i have TONS of homework/fratwork and then i have to leave in a couple hours for elliot's birthday party even though his birthday was like two weeks ago... -_____- FAIL. I hope everyone else updates soon!
hi amoeba! I GOT A HAIRCUT. like an intense haircut! and half of you have seen it already, because i was so excited about it! haha I AM A ROCKSTAR. sidenote. i'm not very happy with andrew. he refuses to see me even though i TOLD him i think he's handsome with his braces too! that g00b. so i have resolved to not let him see my smexy haircut. this means no pictures on fb or amoeblog! how mah-fahn. what do you think, amoeba? should i stick to what i said, or should i let that jerk off the hook? so my entire school had friday off - i drove back thursday night. with victoria and amanda and amanda's friend. but i make em contribute for gas because yo soy poor college student sin job. anyway it took 1.5 hrs to get back due to minor traffic. you know whats cool? when LAX gets jammed and you can see a whooole lineup of planes along the 105 freeway!!! there were like 7 at least - a string of lights in the sky! on friday my mommy cut my hair in the morning. before she went on vacay with my dad to celebrate her bday. i wanted a major change! i was sick of my hair and how it was just heavy and split-endy... i was entertaining the idea of an utada hikaru-esque boycut, but i chickened out. then i considered cutting it short and getting a straight perm... but once my hair keeps growing out it would look super weird. sooo.... it is short, layered, and with bangs now. if youre not andrew, ASK TO SEE IT! i will send you a picture! everyone likes it so far :D its so light and i dont have to straighten it! calvin and i watched nick and norah together. its a short movie at 1.5 hrs. its not as good as juno. its kind of slow and it doesnt really go anywhere. um but it has its moments. calvin and i were the ONLY 2 people in the whole theater - it was during school hours. but still, on the opening day! i got a rad deal at ulta. $5 off $10 coupon, discount on neutrogena... i got $12 worth of stuff for $4.85 chyeah. on saturday i went to 99ranch in the mornin to stock up on asian tv dinners. then i had lunch with kenny after his SAT. haha he didnt recognize me for 2 seconds! but it was so fun seeing him again - yay tea station! then i met jp and carl at my house, and they brought their guitars and we jammed. i missed singing!! especially with them. we set up my moms imac to broadcast ourselves live! ashton and bernard and a loooad of other whs people were watching. it was mega fun. since i am lyrically-retarded, i had to look up lyrics with my macbook haha. the funniest moment was when i burped really loud in the middle of jp's song to christine. haha we all laughed so hard, and he never recovered. x] we recorded some videos of our songs, ask me for a link! then i picked up dinner, and in the 15min i was gone, my dearest brother had a temper tantrum and threw my macbook against the wall :/ its now sliiiightly crooked. but it still works so its alright. calvin, my sister, and i went to go look for a present for my mom at target. (DOMOKUN is the mascot for target halloween!) what do you buy for someone who has EVERything?? calvin and i finished watching i am sam. sad movie... i wonder what my bro will be like as an adult. at night, ashton came over and painted my nails zebra! see what i mean about rockstar ._. her korean hair is even more beautiful in real life :) we talked and watched videos until late, and then i took her and calvin home... sunday was church and calvin and ditching sunday school and playing brawl! then my family went to four seasons for my moms bday. i love my family :)
made it back to school with victoria in record time! took carpool and went 80 most of the way - made it in 40 min!!! academically i'm doing very well - 92 on math test, A- on Great Books paper, 97 on HUM midterm. yes! i just dont have a very good social life ;) OH! theres this amazing fish taco place that has them for 2.50 each on tuesdays after 4. OMG wayyy better than rubios. i interviewed for international programs today. it went okay i think. a lil random. i hope i can go to shanghai next year! it would beat the crap out of malibu food! (speaking of malibu food, my 2 favorites are the prepackaged turkey subs, and the lemon-herb roasted salmon - ohmygosh if heaven was a salmon, this would be it!)
A Muse song again! Time is running out, and soon I'll be back home.
So this week, my roommates' friend came over for the week. Cool guy, his name was Luke, we got along well. He brought Spore, XBox360, and we spent a good amount of our week having fun. He slept in my bed when I wasn't there because the air mattress we got for him deflated over the night. But my bed gave him nightmares, so he would try to not sleep in my bed if he could.
We went to Waffle House (it's like IHOP) a lot, and the school week itself wasn't very interesting.
But on Friday, Alex, Luke and I, went to the swimming pool to swim a bit. Swim team doesn't seem to scorn me for not joining and invited me to play water polo. Tons of fun, I really miss the sport. I miss swimming for fun, but not practice.
I've established the people I hang out with for the most part, and they run in completely circles, so no conflicts between the outgoing friends and the geeky weird friends. Though, I'm used to them being the same people, so it's new in a way. That night, we (CAR + Luke, Lauren, Emily) a went to Toadsuck Park to make smores. We bought all the stuff at Wal-Mart, and then drove down there in a truck. It was a spur of the moment thing, so all we had was the necessary food prepared, but hadn't though about supplies. We just happened to have a flashlight and lighter on hand.
It was cold in the back of the truck, so we switched every now and then. We finally got there, and scrounged up mostly dry wood to start the fire. We also added oily trash to keep it going. It was a lot of fun, and the smores even tasted pretty good. Oh, and someone put bubble bath solution into the fountain. It was awesome.
